During the Black Death in Europe, doctors fought a losing battle against the plague. They wore special outfits that were supposed to protect them from the odors and wind they believed were responsible for spreading the dreaded disease.
Unable to cure it, they still travelled their respective cities at least verifying whether or not a victim was suffering from the plague or something else. So dark as their outer appearance may have seemed, deep down inside beat the hearts of heroes.
This brooches was sculpted by hand, and was inspired by the nursery rhyme _Ring Around the Rosie_ which was originally about the plague. The white part also glows in the dark for an extra spooky look.
